This Thanksgiving, volunteers from Fed Up With Hunger had the honor of preparing a warm and comforting dinner for families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Winfield, IL. Many of these parents and children are spending the holiday at the hospital and are unable to celebrate at home with loved ones. Our goal was to bring the feeling of Thanksgiving to them a moment of comfort, nourishment, and togetherness.
The meal included rotisserie chicken, Italian bread, vegetarian chili, broccoli salad, mac and cheese, spaghetti & meatballs, and homemade apple crisp. Each dish was prepared with care and gratitude, hoping to bring a sense of normalcy and joy during a difficult time. Sharing this meal reminded us of the true meaning of Thanksgiving — showing compassion, lifting spirits, and standing beside families when they need it most.
