Packed with Care: Food and Compassion for Those in Need
Rachel’s involvement with PADS Lake County began in elementary school at St. Mary of the Annunciation in Mundelein, where she volunteered weekly to help make beds for shelter guests. As she grew older, she continued serving at St. Mary’s at Vernon, assisting in the kitchen and helping with shelter setup. Now in high school, she remains committed to this cause through regular meal preparation for individuals experiencing homelessness.
As part of this ongoing volunteer work, Rachel recently prepared and delivered 40 handmade sandwiches—each thoughtfully packed with a piece of fruit, a bottle of water, and a bag of chips. These simple yet nourishing meals were made with care to provide not only sustenance, but also a sense of dignity and comfort. While a small gesture, it served as a powerful reminder that someone cares. Her continued support of PADS reflects a long-standing dedication to serving the most vulnerable members of the community with compassion and hands-on action.
