Speaking Up, Sparking Change
At Fed Up With Hunger, advocacy plays a vital role in our mission to end food insecurity. By raising awareness, educating communities, and encouraging civic engagement, we aim to empower individuals to take meaningful action. Through advocacy, we amplify the voices of those affected by hunger and promote lasting solutions at both the community and policy levels. Our goal is to inspire a more compassionate, informed, and proactive society—one that works together to create a hunger-free future.
Shining a Light on Hunger at National American Miss
As part of the “Fed Up With Hunger” passion project, advocacy efforts reached a national stage at the National American Miss (NAM) Nationals, where the issue of food insecurity was presented twice in front of a large and supportive audience. These powerful moments provided an opportunity to raise awareness about the growing hunger crisis and to encourage others to take action in their own communities. Speaking at NAM Nationals helped shine a spotlight on the urgent need to support food-insecure families and inspired fellow contestants and attendees to be part of the solution. Through this platform, the message was clear: no one should go hungry, and together, we can make a difference.

From Community to Congress: Fighting Hunger Together
As part of our continued efforts to fight food insecurity, we partnered with the Northern Illinois Food Bank advocacy team to take action on a policy level by writing a letter to Congressman Brad Schneider in support of a strong and inclusive FARM Bill. This legislation plays a critical role in funding programs like SNAP that directly impact families struggling with hunger. By lending our voices to this cause, we aimed to urge our elected leaders to protect and strengthen food assistance programs that millions of Americans rely on. It was a meaningful step in combining community service with civic engagement to create lasting change.

Inspiring the Next Generation
As part of its mission to raise awareness and drive change, Fed Up With Hunger launched an educational initiative focused on food insecurity, aimed specifically at young students. The program included an engaging presentation on food insecurity and the importance of nutrition, designed to help elementary school children understand the challenges many families face when access to food is limited and the value of a balanced diet. Through the use of children’s books and engaging activities, these presentations fostered empathy and awareness at an early age. This effort not only educated young minds about a critical social issue but also encouraged kindness, community involvement, and a deeper understanding of how they can help make a difference.
